Don't fear AI - embrace it!

There’s been a lot of talk lately about how AI is this big threat - and it is, to a lot of professions. Especially in the creative industries, where you can now generate songs, lyrics, logos, and artwork in seconds with the help of AI. Even parts of the photography world are feeling it - take H&M’s recent announcement about using AI-generated models in their latest campaign. (I couldn't tell the difference!)

When it comes to brand photography, though, I really don’t see AI as a major threat. Yes, there are apps that can produce polished headshots in seconds, and that might work well for some. But real brand photography - the kind that shows the person or team behind the business, doing what they do, in real environments - is a different thing completely, in my opinion.

Even with really advanced AI, you can’t replicate the genuine feel of a person laughing with their team, working with clients, or just being in their natural element. That kind of authenticity - the little in-between moments, the unscripted expressions, the way someone uses their space - isn’t really something you can fake convincingly. And it’s exactly what makes brand photography powerful.

Right now, I actually see AI as a really helpful tool in my work. Retouching features in software like Photoshop have come so far - they save me lots of time, while still keeping the natural look and feel of the photos. For me, it’s about using the tech where it helps, not replacing the human side of things.

Who knows - maybe in a few years AI will be a thousand times better than it is today (which is a scary thought!). But even then, I think we’ll all still crave that realness. And as customers, we’ll still want to see the real people behind a business - not just something that looks slick but doesn’t connect.

Because at the end of the day, people buy from people. And that’s what great brand photography is all about.
