Let’s be honest - choosing what to wear for your brand shoot can feel a bit overwhelming. You want to look like you, but also polished, professional, relaxed… the list goes on.

Over the years, I’ve found a few outfit tricks (or hacks, really!) that make a big difference — both in how the photos look and how you feel during the shoot.

Here are my top three:

1. Pockets — always!

They’re not just practical - they’re a total game-changer for posing. Pockets give your hands something to do, help you feel more natural, and take away that “what do I do with my arms?” awkwardness.

2. Layers

A blazer, a lightweight knit, a scarf - layers give you variety without the need for a full outfit change.

You can mix up your look in seconds, which is perfect for getting more from your session (and more variety for your website and socials).

Bonus tip: Choose complementary colours and textures to create interest without being too busy.

3. Go for great fit and natural fabrics

Think soft cotton, linen, or wool - breathable, timeless, and always photograph beautifully. Avoid anything too tight or too loose - if you're fidgeting with it constantly, it’s probably not right. The right fit makes you the focus, not the clothes.

And most importantly…

Comfort is key.

If you feel good in what you’re wearing, it shows. So skip the scratchy tops or uncomfortable shoes and go for something that feels like your best self on a good day.

What would you add to the list?
